Holi 2024: When will be Holi celebrated 25th or 26th March? Know Everything Here

Holi, the vibrant "Festival of Colors," is right around the corner, a vibrant explosion of joy and tradition celebrated across India and by Hindu communities worldwide. But when exactly is Holi celebrated in 2024? Let's clear the confusion and dive into the significance, traditions, and timings of this joyous occasion!

When is Holi Celebrated in 2024?

Holi falls on the Full Moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Phalguna. This year, Holika Dahan will be performed after 10:27 pm on Phalgun Shukla Purnima (24 March). Because on this day it is Bhadra from 9:24 am to 10:27 pm. Holika will be on the second day on 25th March.According to Kashi Panchang, due to sunrise on Pratipada Tithi on 26th March, Vibhuti will be worn after paying obeisance to Holika Dahan Bhoomi in the morning. After this, Holi and Vasant Utsav will be celebrated throughout the day of 26th March.

The Significance of Holi

Holi celebrates the triumph of good over evil, as depicted in the legend of Holika and Prahlad. Holika, a demon king's sister, attempted to burn Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, in a bonfire. However, Prahlad's unwavering faith protected him, and Holika herself perished in the flames. The bonfire lighting ceremony, known as Holika Dahan, takes place on the eve of Holi, symbolizing the burning away of negativity.Holi also coincides with the arrival of spring, marking the end of winter and the beginning of a bountiful harvest season. It's a time to shed inhibitions, mend broken bonds, and celebrate life's vibrant colors.

Regional Variations

Holi is celebrated across India with unique regional traditions. In Vrindavan, the land of Lord Krishna, Lathmar Holi sees women playfully chase men with sticks, reenacting a legendary love story. In Barsana, Phoolon wali Holi is a fragrant affair, where devotees shower temples with flowers.

On March 26th, prepare to be showered in vibrant colors! Here's how you can participate in the festivities-

  • Get Colorful: Stock up on safe and eco-friendly dry colors (gulal) and pichkaris (water guns).
  • Dress Comfortably: Wear clothes you don't mind getting stained, preferably in light colors.
  • Prepare Sweets: Holi is incomplete without delicious treats like Gujiya and Thandai.

pujaPurohit wishes you and your family a Happy Holi !!!!
